COVID-19 April 2020

From Daniel

I work in the Maintenance Department as an Electrician. On a typical workday, I will repair or replace lights, switches, outlets, and breakers across the facility. Today, one of my coworkers and I assembled hospital beds. This is indicative of a crisis that affects humanity across our globe.

September 2020 – update
Initially, DOCCS refused to allow prisoners to wear masks. An interview conducted by NPR with a prisoner, John J. Lennon, over the phone from Sing Sing’s prison yard does a great job of illustrating the dynamic of that time. Eventually, DOCCS backed off this position and allowed prisoners the ability to don masks. Unfortunately, it was too late for the likes of Benjamin Smalls, a well-respected peer of mine at Green Haven who died from COVID-19.
